Former staff member to discuss debut book Aug. 5

MK EnglandFormer Atlantic City Teen Services Librarian M.K. England returns to Main Library on Monday, Aug. 5, at 1 p.m., to discuss her debut book, “The Disasters” — a Young Adult sci-fi adventure described as “The Breakfast Club meets Guardians of the Galaxy.” The library will have a limited supply of England’s book to give to those in attendance.

“The Disasters” was released by HarperCollins Publishers in December 2018. In the book, hotshot pilot Nax Hall has a history of making poor life choices. So it’s not exactly a surprise when he’s kicked out of the elite Ellis Station Academy in less than 24 hours. Full of high-stakes action, subversive humor, and underdogs becoming heroes, this book is a page-turning thrill ride.

England’s second book, “Spellhacker,” is set for a January 2020 release.

As a member of the Atlantic City Library staff, England received a 2015 Rising Star Award from the New Jersey Library Association. Also, England was responsible for the library receiving a grant to create a Makerspace, which gives Atlantic City teenagers access to technology and tools, including a 3-D printer, digital audio equipment, robotics, gaming, sewing machine and more.
